Re: EVE Battle Category Situation
« Reply #1110 on: June 28, 2010, 08:03:36 AM »
Before i even begin, DJ-Van and whoever else i'm too ignorant to know, thank you from the bottom of my heart for attaining everything and then some of what this program is capable of.

First off, to take some stress off you guys, i'm not some newbie player here. I know how to install characters, i know what the CMD file does and how to edit it to make specials simple, i even have different songs in the stage def files in the randes folder so that when i die and continue i'm treated to a remix of the song i just lost to. Long story short: I'm one of you, a hardcore player and I should've been on this website a long time ago.

Now i've got a problem. and i've actually been trying to read up on the 70+ pages just to make sure i'm not the idiot who repeats the same thing over and over. but if i really did miss this, than i apologize in advance.

one word: CATEGORIES

don't say "if you wanna get rid of them just look at blah blah blah" nonono, I LOVE the idea of categories. i'm loving the sweet treatment for all the slots, i mean, between near complete character archives of melty blood, guilty gear, the last blade, the newer samurai shodowns, garou mark of the wolves, power instinct matrimelee, rage of the dragons, seriously just about every king of fighter character i can find past '99, the exclusives out of neo-geo battle coliseum, street fighters zero and alpha and third, marvel vs capcom, snk vs capcom, capcom vs snk, (side note, i'm desperate for namco vs capcom btw), darkstalkers, immaterial and missing power, big bang beat, both arcana hearts, eternal fighter zero, variable geo, asuka 120% burning fest, tokidensho angel eyes, groove on fight, galaxy fighter, wakuwaku 7, sengoku basara x, ninja master's haoh ninpo cho, fist of the north star, PLUS many of the original mugen character greats we've all come to enjoy (xiaoyen, tetsu, dragonclaw, need i say more?)

Even if you just pretended to read all of that just then you MUST get the point by now: I've got WAY more diversity than the current categories allow, and ironically more than the non-category select has too. Now i told you, i HAVE been trying to pay attention to the thread.

For whatever reason, and DJ is the mastermind, not me, DJ-Van didn't make the categories a simple oh-just-open-whatever-and-rename-it-switch, i know that. i got fighter factory. i know where the .sff and .fnt files are and what not, but i still need direction.

How does one even create their own category utilizing the DJ's .fnt, then input it into the .sff, and make everything not look like sh!t? I'm sure that the category spots in the .sff are in VERY SPECIFIC, EXACT, GET-IT-WRONG-AND-SCREW-THE-WHOLE-THING-UP-places. Now I said that i'm no newbie. I'm no newbie at mugen, installing and rearranging things OTHER people have made. this, however, is borderline creating a screenpack, going into the .sff like that, messing with sensitive stuff. I DON'T BLAME YA DJ there must've been a reason. but because of how it is now, your near flawless screenpack is missing the holy grail of experience that makes any of us play mugen once, and never stop: PERSONALIZATION. customization relatively simple enough that if you know what typing is and how to do it, the entire program bows at the knees to your will.

Thats the real problem, it takes a screenpack maker's know-how to customize these categories, and thats just not me guys. from the looks of the last 70+ pages, thats not any of us. If anyone of my fellow players here have done it, know how to do it, or at the least i would hope DJ himself has to have done it, some detailed instruction would be nice. i'm pretty sure it'd be the first of its kind, you don't see a lot of go-into-.sff-file-to-screw-with-things- FAQs, well except maybe if you're a screenpack maker asking around, ya know?

Hello everyone,

first of all, I'd like to say thanks to VAN for making such an amazing screenpack.
I have a little problem with the character select screen. I downloaded the latest MUGEN (RC8), downloaded EVE Battle HD and copied both data and font folders. Then I opened the select.def and replaced the "randomselect" (of course not every "randomselect". Only the number of my chars.) with my characters (I wrote folder name of the character which sometimes isn't the same as the .def file of the character located in that folder but that shouldn't be a problem, I think.) When I started MUGEN, everything was OK until I entered the character select screen (in any mode). The screen doesn't have even one of my characters but some of the portraits are placed around the screen and every window behaves like random select. Here's the screenshot and my select.def file:

Code: [Select]

Code: [Select]

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I'm running it in 1280x720 and both fullscreen and windowed mode are doing this.

Theres your problem. The def file name must be the same as the folder for the charcter to work.

Example: kfm/kfm.def = character will work
             Kung fu man/kfm.def = character won't work

you don't need parenthesis after the characters name in the select.
Example: Evilryu = working
             Ryu (Evil) = not working

I see... Heh, pretty stupid of me, huh? Thanks for the reply, I'll try to edit the folders and select.def and see if something changes

EDIT: I have another question. What should I do if I have 2 different versions of a character that have same .def file but were created by two different people. Can I rename the .def file? Thank you for help.

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out. It is possible to rename the .def file (and the folder) and the char shows up in the character select screen.

...

Not necessarily. You can have folder names different than the def files and still have it work. You just have to specify it in the select.def.

Example:

Ryu/NormalRyu.def, random, etc..
Ryu/EvilRyu.def, random, etc..

Oh, I never knew that.

First and foremost, the EVE HD Screenpack is possibly the best screenpack for Mugen 1.0. Which brings me to a question. Are you going to incorporate the LR EVE Lifebars into HD EVE, or will there be a lifebar specifically for HD EVE? Thanks in advance to whoever answers the question.

This is a little demo I made of me testing the HD Pack on RC8.
